The Urban League of Portland is joining six other organizations to link people in Powell-Hurst Gilbert neighborhood with needed services.
The outreach canvass will occur from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. Volunteers will be gathering at Pizza Baron, 2604 SE 122nd Ave. at noon for a brief pre-canvass training. In addition to the Urban League, the program is supported by O.P.A.L. -- Organizing People, Activating Leaders -- a non-profit supporting ignored communities that fight against the oppression of pollution and social injustice. The Skanner, Concordia University, Powell-Hurst Gilbert Neighborhood Association, University of Portland's Black Student Union and Rose Community Development are also part of the outreach.
Everyone is encouraged to come volunteer for the effort. For more information, visit the Urban League of Portland's website or call them at 503-280-2600.
