Police say they have arrested a father and son who were growing marijuana illegally. The On Thursday Feb. 10, at around 8 p.m., the East Metro SWAT (Gresham Police Department, Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and Troutdale Police Department) served a search warrant at a home in the 20200 Block of Northwest Morgan Road. The bust was part of a Portland Police Bureau firearm and narcotics investigation. At about the same time, officers from the Police Bureau's gun task force served a search warrant at a residence in the 700 Block of Northeast Lombard Street, also connected with the investigation.
Two arrests were made: Dale Lee Merritt, 34, was arrested at the Morgan Road location. His son, Nico Merritt, 15, had been arrested earlier that afternoon after he left school.
Officers discovered a marijuana growing operation and recovered two handguns and a rifle at the Morgan Road address.
Dale Merritt was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Manufacturing Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana, Delivery of Marijuana, and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.
Nico Merritt was booked into the Juvenile Detention Home on a charge of Delivery of Marijuana. Both could face additional firearm charges.
