Emma Grede is making history as the first Black woman investor on Shark Tank, Distractify reports.

Grede is the daughter of immigrant parents hailing from Jamaica and Trinidad. She grew up in East London, raised by a single mom as one of four girls. Grede previously told reporters that she was responsible for helping take care of her sisters while her mom was at work every day. Grede credits her mom as the inspiration that guided her to where she is today.

“I watched my mom work incredibly hard, and she really taught me that I could do anything so long as you were willing to work really hard for it,” Grede explained.

Now Grede is an accomplished entrepreneur, serving as co-founder and CEO of Khloe Kardashian’s Good American brand and founding partner at Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS. She and her husband, Swedish entrepreneur Jens Grede, also own the London-based marketing and branding firm Saturday Group and serve as co-editors of Industrie magazine. Greed also works with Kardashian mom Kris Jenner on her plant-based home cleaning product company Safely.

Realizing the American Dream

During Season 13 of ABC’s hit show Shark Tank, Grede made history as the first Black woman investor to join the Sharks. The British entrepreneur said she was excited to join the cast and help other people make their dreams happen.

“I came here to have my own American dream, and I think it’s incredible that this is like a full-circle moment for me where I can help other people realize what it is that they dream of,” explained Grede.

The wife and mother of four said she’s particularly interested in helping other Black women launch their businesses.

“I’m really passionate about women being able to start their own business, especially Black women and women of color. We all know that those groups of women are way left out of funding conversations. So the idea that I can be part of helping someone to start their business is a dream come true,” Greed said.
