The remaining hours of 2022 are ticking away as we cruise toward a New Year. And TriMet will be ready as the final seconds slip away, with buses and trains crisscrossing the tri-county area to help you get where you’re going safely with free rides beginning at 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Saturday, Dec. 31.
Most MAX service will also be operating longer to help people get home. All MAX trains will run on Saturday schedules with extended late-night service on most lines going until at least 2 a.m. TriMet buses will run on regular Saturday schedules on New Year’s Eve.
This longstanding tradition, in partnership with ODOT Transportation Safety, is meant to help prevent impaired driving. With December being National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, TriMet urges people to consider how they’re going to get home before they step out the door. It also gives peace of mind to anyone choosing to take transit over a car when traveling during one of the busiest nights of the year. Riders can plan ahead by going to trimet.org/planner. Remember that if you’re traveling after midnight, select Jan. 1 from the date menu. You can also see real-time locations of buses and trains—on computers, tablets and other mobile devices—by going trimet.org.
