Journalist Juan Williams to Speak at Lynwood's Mlk Event

As part of the city of Lynwood's Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, Juan Williams, senior correspondent for National Public Radio and Fox News political analyst, will speak on "The Changing Face of America: Working Together for the Future," at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12, at the Lynwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. S.W.
Williams, who also is a regular panelist for Fox News Sunday, worked at The Washington Post for 21 years as an editorial writer, political columnist and White House correspondent.
Williams is the author of six books, most recently, Enough: The Phony Leaders, Dead-End Movements, and Culture of Failure That Are Undermining Black America — and What We Can Do About It. His critical analysis of Black leadership and call for a return to the values of the civil rights movement sparked national debate.
Prior to Williams' evening talk, high school and college students will meet with him from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the convention center, to discuss academic preparation for journalism careers.
The city of Lynwood's Diversity Commission, in partnership with Edmonds Community College, Central Washington University-Lynwood, Edmonds School District and the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce, is holding a series of events as part of its 2007 Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, including the address by Williams.

• Jan. 10: Immigrant Rights Forum, a discussion of the rights and treatment of documented and undocumented residents, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Triton Union Building, 202, Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave. W. in Lynwood.
• Jan.11: Understanding Religious and Cultural Similarities and Differences Forum, 7 to 9 p.m. Trinity Lutheran Church-Lynwood, 6215 196th St. S.W.
• Martin Luther King Jr. Day service projects: Edmonds Community College students will participate in service projects on campus and in the community, including tree planting and wheelchair repair. Community members are welcome to participate.
