Vancouver's First Families Discussed by Cornetta Smith

Cornetta Smith, project director of "First Families of Vancouver's African-American Community," lectures on First Families/ Colors of Influence Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main Street, Vancouver.
Smith is working to identify, locate, and interview African-American families who settled in Vancouver during the wartime shipyard era and stayed to build a strong community here.
Her goal is to recognize and credit the contributions of these "first families" in helping make the city and the area become what it is. Smith plans to publish a book in 2010 based on these interviews.
The talk is part of the First Thursday Museum After Hours Lecture Series, running from 5 to 9 p.m. The CCHM is located in Vancouver's 1909 Carnegie Library, 1511 Main St., Vancouver, WA.
Regular museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is charged, but the lecture series is free.
